Lost Songs is the eight full-length album from the Austin, Tx post-hardcore band …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. This release focused on the disillusionment of society and their apathy towards real world events. The track “Up to Infinity” is about the uprising in Syria. The lyric, “the world, a monster coming back to eat her master,” stands as a powerful statement of the group’s opposition to oppression and tyranny.

The first single of the album is “Catatonic,” which questions the path of the rationale of the conservative party by asking “who were we trying to save?” Frontman Conrad Keely is expressing his distaste for the moral conservative movement and its want to restore a state of society that never existed and hinder progress.

The track, “Opera Obscura,” shows that while the subject matter of their lyrics has changed the intensity of their instrumentation has not. Trail of the Dead gained notoriety early in their career for ending their live shows with the ritualistic destruction of their instruments which they continue to do.

Overall, Lost Songs is …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead’s strongest release since their 2002 release, “Source Tags and Codes.”
