Sleepwalking is by far one of the best albums I have listened to in the past months. Formed by Ryan Graveface of Black Moth Super Rainbow and lyricist and vocalists Elsa and Phaedra Greene, Casket Girls is endlessly catchy and impressively produced. Starting of with “Walking On a Wire,” Phaedra and Elsa’s harmonizing instantly impress, back by a heavy, steady drumbeat. The whole album has relatively simple and repetitive lyrics that manage to convey more than their words, like “Maybe we weren’t meant of these times/ It’s like I’m walking on a wire.” “I’ve Got a Secret” has a wonderfully eerie undertone with ghostly vocals. The title track “Sleepwalking” is by far the album standout. It is appealing, innocent, and ever so slightly morbid. The Casket Girls successes in balancing out strange lyrics with sweet vocals back by an array of instruments. The track “Heartless” has this disco vibe that seems fresh and incredibly original. The end of the record has “You Never Know” and “Give It All Away,” two more stellar tracks that add to a success of an album.
You can see The Casket Girls perform at The Mohawk in Austin on the 3rd of November.
