Scissor Sisters

Magic Hour

Released: May 28, 2012
Label: Polydor

The well-known America pop rock band, Scissor Sisters are back with their fourth album, Magic Hour. After releasing several modern day anthems like “Filthy/Gorgeous”, “Take Your Mama Out”, and “Laura” there were high expectations for this album, especially with Calvin Harris and Diplo helping with production. However this may have been a bit of a let down for all of those who have followed close behind the Scissor Sisters. There are a lot of distinct sounds from Calvin Harris and Diplo on several of the tracks but surprisingly the album as a whole is much more mellow than their three previous releases.

There are a few tracks that do stand apart from the rest on Magic Hour. The 7th track on the album, “Shady Love” was the first song to be introduced before the official release. This track may not be full of surprise but it is undeniably catchy and features American rapper Azealia Banks, who was on NME’s cool list for 2011. “Only the Horses” and “Let’s have a kiki” are another two tracks worth listening to. Although this may not be a top album release of 2012, the Scissor Sisters are still giving the industry cheesy, guilty pleasure music even with a slightly different sound than before.
