Nouela Johnson, the Seattle based artist, started her solo work in a band called People Eating People, which released a self-titled album in 2009. She also played in Mon Frere (“my friend” in French) which released two albums in 2005 and 2006. Her latest solo album, Chants, is her best work yet. What makes this her best music is that this album is very personal and seems to be incredibly honest about her personal life. Her voice is astonishingly powerful which pair perfectly with the piano. She reminds of Adele and Florence and The Machine, which are also very powerful female singers. I would recommend “Buckle Down” and “Fight” and if you like what you hear I inform you to buy the album because it is solid throughout. In “Fight” she sing, “Don’t know what good is, don’t know what great means.” I personally believe she knows what good is and she will know very soon what great means. Her album tour has ended already and most of her concerts were in Pacific Northwest.
