Aussie based Leroy Lee offers a soothing voice backed by simple folk guitar and equally simple lyrics. The album gives little range, sticking to a coffee shop sound for the whole ten tracks. In its entirety the album is a pleasant listen, both calming and cheery. Opening with the catchy and mesmerizing track “Drawing Smoke,” seems promising but the album lags from there on out. Simple titles like “There Works a Waitress” and “Cry Baby” state exactly what the lyrics are about, giving the album a surface-level feel with little to no depth for the listener. The album closes with “Night Night,” the other stronger track and leaves you with a peaceful, yet empty, state of mind. If you are interested in Leroy Lee, “Drawing Smoke” is worth a listen and if you enjoy Lee’s easy-listening charm, wade into the rest of the album from there.
