First and foremost, I have to admit that when I first put in f, monday, orange, february, venus, lunatic, 1 or 13 into my CD player for listening, I almost wrote-off Colourmusic as another indie-hippie folk band, which as you all know are popping up left and right. However, after listening for a few minutes, which led to a few songs, which led to listening to this album over and over, I quickly realized that this is by far one of the best albums that my ears have had the privilege to discover in a while.
Complete with never-let-you-down pop song tendencies, such as high-pitched male vocals reminiscent of The Beach Boys or even The Shins, catchy in-your-face choruses, charming melodies, and quite frankly just an overall sense of happiness and fun, Colourmusic has indeed entered the realm of underground music gurus. Standout songs include Put In A Little Gas, Circles, and You Can Call Me By My Name. I strongly advise everyone to give this album a listen, especially for fans of The Flaming Lips and The Polyphonic Spree.
