This mix tape dropped on Halloween of last year and was A$AP Rocky’s big break into the music scene. This fresh new face has brought a much-needed sound to the rap game. There are several references throughout the mix tape to Houston rap and noticeable influences as well. The beats used are all similar to those in the Houston “chopped and screwed” scene, which isn’t completely expected considering A$AP is from Harlem.
The opening track “Palace” starts off slow, building into what’s bound to be a great mix tape. The second track “Peso” is what seems to have given A$AP the edge to break into the music scene. This song has catchy samples, great lyrics, and an overall good sound. Preceding these two tracks, there are several following that live up to the prior greatness. “Wassup”, “Purple Swag: Part 2”, “Get Lit”, and “Kissin’ Pink” are all tracks worthy of listening to. Overall after his mixtape “LiveLoveA$AP”, A$AP Rocky is a face that won’t be disappearing in this forthcoming year.
